As mother’s we give so much of ourselves, let this be the nudge you need to fully take care of yourself too. You need to prioritize you so you can give fully. This may mean putting aside some “chores” or setting boundaries so you can nourish your body, get outside and get movement and get the support you need (whether it’s supplements, an extra hand, etc).

6 HABITS MESSING WITH YOUR HORMONE BALANCE

These are some of the habits I see all the time in women struggling with hormone balance. Shifting from these habits to ones that are more supportive of hormone health can make a huge difference.

Here’s what to do instead:

Drink coffee WITH a meal - coffee isn’t a meal. Instead of drinking it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning try pairing it with a balanced meal. This puts less stress on the adrenals and reduce the cortisol spike caffeine can cause.

Have protein with breakfast - protein is satiating and reduces glucose spikes from happening. Remember, blood sugar balance is key for healthy hormones. It’s ideal to have a meal that contains protein, healthy fats, and fiber-rich carbohydrates.

Stop intermittent fasting - this is not supportive of hormone balance for women. A 10-12 hour fast overnight is sufficient. Studies on IF have been done on MEN and they do not have the same hormonal fluctuations as women. For women who are also stressed, this can be very taxing on the adrenals, which is not ideal.

Avoid going low carb - ladies, you need carbohydrates. Going low carb is essentially starving your body of its preferred source of fuel. This can also tax the thyroid and adrenals.

Eat enough calories - THIS IS HUGE. I see it all the time. women’s eating less that 1800 calories or even trying to stick to 1200 calories a day. You’re basically starving yourself, especially of essential nutrients. Your metabolism slows and it shuts down your reproductive system as your body does everything conserve energy.

Switch to non-toxic skincare - endocrine disrupting ingredients are one of the fundamental root causes of hormonal imbalances and you’re using them every single day, even multiple times a day!

ARE YOU EATING ENOUGH PROTEIN? // increasing protein (aiming for at least 100 grams per day) and adding in more high-quality animal protein has drastically improved how I feel.

Have you experienced this too??

I typically recommend 0.8-1 gram per lb of ideal body weight. With about 30 grams per meal. You have some wiggle room here but you can play around with the number and see how you feel.

Check in with your energy, satiety levels, cravings, weight and go from there. But chances are you’ll have more energy, think less about food, feel satisfied after eating, and improved mood when eating enough protein.

MEDITERRANEAN SALMON BOWL // bright, crunchy, fres

MEDITERRANEAN SALMON BOWL // bright, crunchy, fresh — truly the is warm weather meal. Tons of fresh crunchy veggies for fiber + minerals and a thick piece of salmon for protein and omega-3s. It’s versatile, blood sugar friendly and supportive of hormone balance. Plus, it’s ready in about 20 minutes.

Serves 2

2, 6 oz salmon filets (skin on)
salt and peppr
avocado oil
parchment paper (ideally non-bleached)
1/2 lemon

3-4 Persian cucumbers, diced
12 oz cherry tomatoes, halved
1/4 red onion, sliced thin (soak in water for 10 minutes to remove some of the bite!)
1/2 cup castelvetrano olives, chopped
1/3 cup chopped parsley
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
1/2 lemon, juiced
salt and pepper to taste
sumac
** get creative with it — sometimes I add capers, chickpeas and/or chopped hearts of palm**

Season the fish all over with salt and pepper. Drizzle avocado oil in a stainless steel skillet and set the parchment on top. Flip it over to coat both sides in the oil. Heat over medium heat. Place the fish on top of the parchment. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes. Flip, then continue to cook until done, abut 5 minutes or until your preferred doneness.

Place all of the salad ingredients in a large bowl. Make sure to drain the water from the onions if soaking. Season with salt, pepper and sumac to taste.

You guys know I’ve been on a gut healing journey
