I like my coffee black. No cream, no sugar, just dark roasted and full of depth. I started drinking my coffee this way in high school and have never found the need to add any extra since I genuinely love the taste. Coffee is part of my morning routine that helps me start my day on a positive note. The whole process is something I love. The smell of the roasted beans. The sound of the coffee brewing. Those little drips filling the insulated pot as impatiently wait till there is enough to barely fill my mug. The bitter taste with subtle notes of chocolate and citrus as I take the first sip. All these small details of the coffee making process are something I appreciate as part of my morning routine each and every day. I usually only drink coffee in the morning, and not so much for the caffeine jolt that so many of us need to get the day started. However, this is has not always been the case. I used to live on coffee senior year in high school and freshman year in college. I would brew a huge pot (think 8-10 cups) in the morning and then again in the afternoon. Once I started respecting my body enough to give it what it needs (the proper amount of sleep, nourishing whole foods, and rest), I lost my dependance on coffee. Now, I typically only drink coffee in the morning and savor the its unique bitter taste as I eat my breakfast.
Well, that was the case until these past few weeks but for reasons you might think! I’ve been enjoying Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee as my mid-morning or afternoon drink of choice due to its incredible health benefits and smooth coffee taste.
Yup, I’m back at it with the mushroom coffee. But you guys, this stuff is awesome! Four Sigmatic has added mushrooms, more specifically cordyceps, to coffee giving you balanced stimulation. That’s coffee without the jitters! Coffee stimulates the nervous system and adrenal glands due to the caffeine. Cordyceps naturally give a more balanced cellular boost, so when combined with coffee it doubles the energizing effects with only using half of the amount of caffeine.
I shared some info about medicinal mushroom the all their benefits early this year, along with a recipe for my medicinal mushroom latte. That recipe uses powdered mushrooms, and while I love having the ability to make my own blends this isn’t always convenient. This is why I love Four Sigmatic. They’ve created pre-packaged, portable pouches of medicinal mushrooms blended with coffee, herbs, and even cocao. Just added to hot water and you have a drink packed with all the the mushroom benefits!
While I do love the Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee hot, I’ve found with the sweltering heat I’ve been preferring it over ice. The directions say to add the pouch to 7oz of hot water. But to make it iced, I’ve found reducing the hat water to 4oz and pouring it over 1 cup of ice works best. The hot water melts the some of the ice and you end up with a perfectly cold, non-watery coffee.
Hot Coffee: 1 packet + 7oz hot water
Iced Coffee: 1 packet + 4oz hot water + 1 cup ice (plus more for serving)
Stay tuned for future posts that use Four Sigmatic. Next up, I’m sharing with you something frozen using the hot chocolate mix! Any guesses??
